Apple smart watches may be solar powered

WASHINGTON: Apple is exploring the possibility of using solar power-based charging in its range of highly anticipated wearable smart watches. The tech giant is considering equipping the smart watch's screen with a solar-charging layer that would top up the battery when the device Is worn in daylight. The Verge reported on Tuesday

Such a solution is considered ‘years from becoming a reality” and the company Is yet to introduce such a tech to its iPhones. It Is speculated that the rumored smart watch would use a curved glass screen, and also have wireless charging. Apple Is known to have hired battery engineers from the likes of Tesla and Toyota in recent years, and has patented technologies such as flexible batteries and tiny components that generate power from external motion, the report added.
